Our interest is focused to the application of quantum chemistry to characterize the molecular and electronic structures and predict the chemical reactivity. The main research lines applied to metal and free porphyrins derivatives correspond to: (a) charge transfer mechanisms (through-bond and through-space) in oxidation-reduction processes; (b) modelling of modified electrodes; (c) global and local DFT reactivity descriptors; (d) photophysic processes involving excited states of interest in photodynamic therapy of cancer. Molecular dynamics is also being used in our group for the study of porphyrin binding modes with DNA nucleic acid.
